Hands, face, space. Here we go again…… Not that we stopped here at Newtons Medical Supplies.

With the new case of the variant Omicron rapidly on the rise face coverings have become mandatory again in England.

So what do we know about this highly evolved virus?

The first case of Omicron was first reported to WHO in South Africa on 24th November 2021.

Gov.uk states Omicron has a large number of spike protein mutations, as well as mutations in other parts of the viral genome.

Health secretary told sky “It is not yet clear whether and or how Omicron escapes for natural immunity or vaccine induced immunity.” The UK could have around one million infections of the strain in the community by the end of the year.

Symptoms of Omicron include, fatigue, body aches and mild headaches. No parents it doesn’t mean you defiantly have Omicron its probably lack of sleep because of a teething baby, sleep is for the weak anyway!! Enough about me, a PCR test would be a good idea if you have these symptoms you can book this online Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

The main symptoms of Covid 19 according to the NHS are:

  • A high temperature
  • A new continuous cough
  • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.

And finally just a reminder, that we at Newtons can take steps to help reduce the risk of spread such as, a well fitted face covering (check out our website we have everything from disposable, reusable, and everything in between). Good hand hygiene (We’ve got you covered there too!)  Physical distancing, keeping areas well ventilated, avoiding crowded places, and getting your Covid vaccination.

Stay safe.
